Amazing New Year, Great New Plan, and My New Word. Come follow along with me.
My recent life has been a constant zigly-zag in motion. Five years ago, I gave up making resolutions and converted to using a word for each year.
At that time, I had been ‘single again’ for 19 years. I knew it was time to PURGE both the physical clutter of my home and all the limiting beliefs stored in my brain.
Purge served me well as I cleaned out closets with stuff from more years than I’m willing to admit to you. My grandson drug boxes of unknown objects from the deep recesses of my attic. And a dear friend loaded up his truck for a journey to the local junkyard.
During all my single years, I had numerous first-dates and a couple of longer-term guy friends. I decided the next year would be all about SELF-LOVE and no dating. It was time to focus on myself, decide exactly what I needed and wanted in my life, and simply rest and re-energize.
Fate is a funny thing, but you know that. The very year I gave up on dating was the year Mr. Right For Me came back into my world. A girlfriend had located my high-school sweetheart on social media. I spent the last half of my year of self-love reconnecting with Daniel.
So the following year, my word was TRANSITION. This would be the year Daniel and I would be married and combine our lives into one household. After living alone now for 21 years, this was definitely an enormous transition in my life.
Our purchase of a coastal vacation home that same year was one more thing on the list. We loved having the getaway cottage but it needed a lot of purging and remodeling.
FOCUS was the next word I used. Along with a new marriage, I was ready to retire from my 30-year career. I had to stay focused in order to juggle all the newness brewing in my world.
I was still rearranging my home and making room to move my office home. And now, I was ready to focus on spending quality time with my new husband.
And last year, I wanted to BALANCE retirement, marriage, home life, and shared dreams so that things would not get all wacky and out-of-control on me.
Balancing all the moving parts of our lives can sometimes be a tricky act to pull off. Thankfully, Daniel eased the way for so many changes happening at the same time in our lives.
Up to now, each Word of the Year has set the tone and perfectly played out through the entire year. Now, it’s time to choose another word for the coming year.
There are many lists online of words to use but I found that I do better by planning for the coming year, figuring out what I am expecting, and choosing an appropriate word. If you are ready, I’m ready to share my next word with you.
SERVE is my newest Word of the Year. I have begun a second career as an author. With a new book out in the world and a group of people who want to be inspired by joy, I am ready to serve them. I want to bring about daily positivity and guide others through the storms of life to seek joy in their own lives.
Being single for so many years and then bringing a piece of my past back into my life, I have read, studied, and learned quite a bit about joy, blessings, and self-care.
I know I need to start each morning by reading from several devotional/inspirational books, stretching my body through a yoga routine, and of course, a mega-sized dose of caffeine. Then I’m ready to get dressed for the day. Guess what is taped all over my bathroom mirror… sayings about joy and positive affirmations to remind me that all is well in my world and I am good enough.
Through both my first career and now my time spent writing, I have always been sitting in front of a computer for long hours most days. Voila! A fitness tracker now reminds me to get myself up every hour and move. Along with the extra steps that I now get, I have found it also to be a creative break in my intense thought process.
Now that I’ve spilled the last five years of my life to you, I want to say I am happily married, enjoying days filled with creative writing, and soaking up rays at the coast.
Perhaps you’ve chosen a word for the new year. I encourage you to paste your word in a visible place to remember and focus on it all of the coming year. Also, I’d be honored if you shared your Word for the Year in the comments below.
Happy New Year Everyone!
