This quotation sums up the nature of friendship perfectly:
“Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable. “
~ Bruce Lee

The Health Benefits of Friendship
Did you know that friendship is beneficial to your health and well being?
The Mayo Clinic states:
“Adults with strong social support have a reduced risk of many significant health problems, including depression, high blood pressure and an unhealthy body mass index (BMI). Studies have even found that older adults with a rich social life are likely to live longer than their peers with fewer connections.“

Better yet are the psychological and emotional benefits of friendships. Good friends:
- Give you a sense of belonging and purpose
- Make you feel happy
- Build your confidence and self-esteem
- Celebrate your success
- Lend support during difficult times
Although true friendships bring great joy, not everyone is blessed with good friends. Be sure to let your friends know how much you appreciate them.

This is a beautiful post! I’m blessed with a group of true friends of over 50+ years that I grew up with! My childhood best friend that I call my sister and I even have matching tattoos with yellow roses in it! 🙂
Sharon, you are so fortunate to stay in touch with childhood friends. In today’s world, people move around so much that people don’t stay in touch.
I love this blog post! It’s unique and illustrates just how important friendships are and how they enhance our lives. I’d rather have a few good friends than many mediocre friends.
Heather, I totally agree about having a few close friends.
It’s crazy how kids know instinctively how to make friends, but we adults need a refresher course! We get so busy with our own lives and suddenly realize that real friendships take work. Great tips!
Rachel, you are so correct. Kids don’t think anything about making friends everywhere they go. Great point!
Great post! I have redefined what a friend means to me over the past few years. I have learnt to let go of some of the people I trusted the most who hurt me. I think knowing the true definition of friendship is an ongoing change during our life. Making new friends who are not on social media is a struggle for me.
Jenn, I have also had to change up my friendships recently. I made some big changes in my life that are fabulous for me.
Some friends thought I should have done other things and became distant to me.
Love this post a lot. I have a very small circle of friends including my childhood friend and this is truly amazing how it soothes our soul whenever we talk, meet or even chat over phone. Thank you sharing this lovely post with such wonderful quotes!

I have really struggled with maintaining friendships throughout my adulthood. I haven’t found my tribe and it often saddens me. I am not sure I ever will. Thankfully I have my husband and my family.
Jody, family are usually our best friends!
I can relate to you. I have always enjoyed visiting other tribes but never really found my own either.

This is so true. I have had the same friends since high school, and although we don’t see each other often, we still find time to stay connected however we can. True good friends are hard to find!
Yes yes yes!!!
